| Tony trying to drink Lola's sorrows
away. |
Q: So Tony, what the hell is wrong with Lola's?
A: Chemistry. Our starting 5 is as talented as
any other starting 5, but we have no chemistry.
Here we are 7 games into the season and our team has played
only 1 game with all our players there.
Q: How many touches a game do you need so Lola's
can have a chance to win
or be competitive?
A: I'm getting my fair share of touches, but a
few more would definitely help our team. I
find myself open a few times during a game were an extra pass
to get me the ball would help us out plenty rather then a teammate of
mine trying to shoot over 3 people.
Q: What do you think about Ike's management style?
Does his know it all attitude piss you off?
A: Everyone knows how much Ike likes to talk,
but he hasn't been that bad. He just likes to
try and coach people which is fine with me, but he has
to remember we're not the Goya girls team. We are grown men who need
to
be treated like grown men. One thing he said after we
lost to Papa John's which I did not like was
"that was the best game we have played". If that is
our best game and we lost, then we are in big trouble. A game is 40
minutes, not 38. But as far as Ike's "know it
all attitude", about basketball, it doesn't
bother me, it's his "know it all attitude" about peoples
personal life that I don't like. He gossips more than a Yaya in a
Greek village
Q: Is Diokno really coaching or is Ike controlling
every decision Diokno makes?
A: Diokno is still our coach. Ike still
supports Diokno as far as I know. I too have
always supported Mike and still do, but I'm not sure Diokno has his
heart into it this year. He has missed more than half our games.
With
his recent marriage, moving into a new home and Halo on
X-Box, I think Diokno is more concerned with his
life outside of basketball. Once he settles
down, I look for Diokno to make a strong comeback, maybe with a new
team next year. I would like to play for him.
Q: What changes need to be made so Lola's can make a
final four run?
A: Back to chemistry again. We need learn how
to play like a team. Pass the ball around.
Help each other on D. Basic team play. And having 5 players
for the games might help too. But make no doubt about it, we will
eventually come together and when we do, we will be a force
in the playoffs
Q: Did Lola's front office make the right moves this
off-season? What has kept you on this team? Everyone thought
you and Fannis where going to make the Lefkatha
Tandem. Do you see yourself leaving Lola's next year?
A: I thought Lola's was just fine last year. After giving Shark
Club a scare in the playoff's last year and hard
work in the off season, I thought we were
ready to make a serious move this year. We picked up Ricky from the
Painters, who leads our team in scoring and along with me,
has been the only other player to make every game.
From that perspective, our GM has made a right move,
but I believe what we really needed was a true point guard to
get the ball to our 3 point specialist Elia and to the rest
of our scorers. Look, our team is full of
Ballers, each with their special talents and when we
gel, the rest of the teams better watch out. As far as making
a new team, it did cross my mind last year, but I
wanted to stay loyal to my current team and like I
said, I thought we were going to make a serious run this
year, which is not over yet
Q: You are going to be hot free agent this
off-season, definitely top 5, what does Lola's need to do to keep you on
this team? Is it true that Panorama's Moutso
has already contacted your agent and offered free
lifetime DJ Pete CDs?
A: I would rather not talk about next season
until this season is over because you never know
what is going to happen down the stretch. I will say that I am
going to be a free agent next year and I will entertain offers
from other teams, but right now my heart is with Lola's. As
far as the rumor about me having already talked with
Panorama, it is just that, a rumor. Although I
will say that DJ Mousto and I will happen to be in Miami at the
same time later this month only by coincidence. We
may meet up, hang out and talk about things.
If basketball happens to be one of those things, so be
it.
Q: Tony, you use to talk more shit to other
players and to the refs then
anyone in the League when you play. You have seemed
to calm down, is it
true?
A: Maybe somewhat. I still talk shit
when I'm on the court. I talk shit to anyone
I'm playing against even if they are 10 times better then me.
I like to get inside peoples heads. I think
people make bad mistakes when
they are mad. Earlier this year in a tournament in
Richmond, we were losing with under a minute left in
a playoff game. I got the other teams leading scorer
so mad that he threw the ball at me. He got a technical foul and we
ended up winning the game. Of course it doesn't work
all the time. I talk shit to Pete Stamos every
time we play and he still lights me up, but he lights
everyone up. It is important to remember that I only do it during
the 40 minutes I'm on the court, when another person is
trying to beat me. During those 40 minutes, I
don't care who I'm playing against, a friend, a relative,
whoever. At that point your against me. But when I'm not on
the court, I'm as nice to them as if they were a
friend or relative. I'll hang out and talk to
them or buy them a drink at the bar. I think most people
have come to realize that, which is not good because now
they tend to ignore me on the court and getting in
their head has become less effective. As far as
the refs go. I talk so much shit to them and am constantly yelling
at them, but you just have to know how to do it.
I have yet to receive a technical foul in the past
two years just by yelling at the refs.
