Villagers of The Big Village were seen
celebrating Lola's Basketball Team's win against rival Greek Team
Vourvoura at 5am there time (10pm est. standard U.S.). Guns were being
fired in the air, car horns were blaring and Tsipro was being passed out
at the town Platia (Square). The Big Villages favorite sons Kleanthis
"Ike" Karavangelos and Fotee "40 Cent" Kontos were heralded for putting
together the best team the village has seen since Ike was on the 1997
Potamia Games Champions. They had struggled in recent years to put a
winning team together but are poised this year to make a major
breakthrough in the DC Greek League. Villagers were quoted as saying
that they would be grilling their best Katsikia (Goats) and having a big
shindig. They especially wanted to send some Tsipro for birthday boy
George Markopolis for making a great defensive steal against his arch
nemesis George Manolatis. They will make Jan. 25 a permanent village
holiday from here on in, and can't wait for the team to visit this
summer.
In a related news story in the Village
of Vourvoura there was wide spread reports of rioting and unrest. As
many as 13 people were said to be injured when a relative of the
Papoulis Twins went on a shooting spree of fellow villagers who were
calling for team president Demetri Papoulis resignation. The team
headquarters next to the village public restroom was vandalized and set
a fire, no injuries were reported but all of the 2 trophies were lost.
